Alex Mlynárčik  (1934) is a pioneer of Slovak neo-avant-garde and conceptual art. Born in 1934, he is known for his radical happenings, action art, and bridging the gap between art and everyday life. During the communist regime, he bypassed official state art galleries by turning real-world events and environments into collective artistic experiences.

Alex Mlynárčik is a pioneer of central European New Realism. Since the 1960s, he maintained strong artistic ties with Paris, collaborating closely with the influential French art critic Pierre Restany. He became known for organizing massive participatory happenings, such as “If All the Trains of the World” and the “1st Olympic Games in Altamira” in 1970. In 1972, he co-founded a fictional utopian kingdom called “Argillia”, which issued its own official passports, stamps, and constitution. His radical avant-garde work gained international recognition and is featured in major collections.
